I used 30 second timed exposure with this photograph. My friend only stayed in the frame for 4 out of the 30 total seconds that the shutter was open. The dramatic lighting and high contrast gives a feeling of mystery.
Sunset on the California coast. The seagull was nice enough to show me his good side while standing on the rock. Sunset always creates the most dramatic shadows which adds dimension to the subject.
Fog is another subject or background enhancer if used correctly. Lucky for me the northern Californian coast has plenty. In my opinion, the look of the wooden fence helps it blend with the background. If it were made of iron the photograph might not have worked out as well. The viewfinder took my quarter soon after this photograph was taken.
Low tide off the Oregon coast. Overcast weather and an old tug boat, along with a steaming factory in the distance hint to a different time in history.
A 20 second exposure and a tripod were used to capture the moon behind a dormant tree in Porter Ranch. Thats right I said the moon.
Underneath Chatsworth St. provides a place for taggers to display their work. The reflection from the water adds depth and a feeling of grimy-ness.
I was lucky enough to arrive at the Santa Monica Pier as a thick marine layer was rolling in and the tide was at its lowest. I have never seen the tide so low by the pier before. the seagulls were leisurely hunting for sand crabs in the moist sand.
I waited only minutes for the right wave to crash against the rock. Its good to be patient, but its also great when you don't have to be. This was taken near Zuma beach.
The remnants of an old ship off the coast of Oregon set a certain mood for this photograph. The sand on this particular beach was a darker shade which gave the sand more contrast. This particular beach was used in the movie 'The Road'. If you don't believe me get a hold of the movie and see for your self.
Two large wooden wheels rest on the side of an old building in Calico California, its an old mining town established during the gold rush. Its now empty of all residents but tourists stop by on a regular basis. The aged wood adds texture and detail to an otherwise basic photograph.
